Welcome to the Department of Molecular Biology iFolder site.

From here you can download the latest clients available and get step by step instructions for setting up iFolder on your computer. Click on the following links for help with:

iFolder Client Download

iFolder is currently supported on intel based Mac, Windows, and SuSE Linux clients. Click on the link that matches your system:

Mono Download

If you are prompted to install Mono on your computer by the iFolder installer, Please use one of the following versions:


Install iFolder for the first time

Step 1

  • Create a new folder on your desktop named iFolders
  • Open the new iFolders folder and create a new folder inside of it named Yourfirstname Yoursecondname where Yourfirstname & Yoursecondname are replaced with your actual first and second name.

Step 2

  • Download & open the appropriate iFolder client from the list above.
  • Click Yes when prompted.
  • If you are prompted to install mono as a per-requisite please download and install it from the clients above.

Step 3

  • Click on the + button to activate the new account fields.
  • Fill out the new account with the information provided in your iFolder account email.
  • Note that the username field contains your Firstname Lastname with a space in between. That is correct, make sure to capitalize any letters that are capitalized in your name.

  • We recommend that you have iFolder remember your password to facilitate regular syncing of your files.
  • Click the login button when finished.

Step 4 optional

  • You may now be prompted to accept the security certificate in use on iFolder. If you are please accept the certificate. There is nothing wrong with it, but some systems do not automatically recognize it, and must manually accept it.

Step 5

  • You will now be prompted to create a default iFolder.
  • Click the Browse button and navigate to the Yourfirstname Yourlastname folder that you created earlier inside the iFolders folder on your desktop.
  • Once you have selected the default iFolder click the Create button.

Step 6

  • You should now have a working iFolder. Congratulations! Put files you want to sync in the Yourfirstname Yourlastname folder and they will automatically be synced with the server.

Install iFolder on your other computers

Step 1

  • You will now be prompted to download the default iFolder. This is not necessary and can lead to confusion. Click the cancel button.

  • You will now see a window with all of your available iFolders. Double click on the iFolder you want to download to your computer.

Step 6

  • When prompted click on the Browse button and select the iFolders folder you created earlier on your desktop.
  • Click Open to confirm your selection.

Step 7

  • Click Download to download the folder.

Step 8

  • If everything went well you should now have your folder Yourfirstname Yourlastname inside the iFolders folder on your desktop. Now any files you place in the folder Yourfirstname Yourlastname will be automatically synced with the iFolder server.
  • If for some reason the folder didn't synchronize properly click the synchronize button again.
