About Eachan Johnson

With a background in structural biology and biophysics, during my first postdoctoral position I am pursing research into new drugs to fight the human pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Chemical genetics provides the toolbox to finely probe the function of proteins in whole cells and models of infection, allowing the researcher to observe phenotypes in a high or low throughput manner. Currently my primary project, funded by the Gates Foundation, aims to screen several large small molecule libraries against strains of M. tuberculosis with knocked-down essential genes (hypomorphs) to reveal new antibiotic targets and candidates.
